This is the dress worn by Emily Dickinson.

The  Garment is modest and loose fitting.

It does not have a waistline.

It has 12 buttons  made of mother of pearl, and Lace edging at the collar and cuffs.

There is one pocketlocated on the right hip.

The woman who wore it was 5'2 in tall.

She was born in the the  town of Amherst in Massachusetts in 1830, and hardly ever left the grounds of her family home.

She was an outsider who never married and was known among the towns folk as an eccentric.

VO: "I must tell you about the character of Amherst, it is a lady whom the people call "the myth", she dresses wholly in White and her mind is said to be perfectly wonderful".

The popularity  of her poetry has always been bound up with interest in her unconventional life.
