Nothing gets quite the same reaction as seeing a creepy crawler in the corner of the room.

But why?

Have you ever stopped and wondered what it is about bugs that makes us freak out so bad?

Let's find out on today's episode of Colossal Questions.

Lots of us seem to have super strong reactions any time we see a creepy crawler scuttling or squirming around.

Cockroaches, centipedes, spiders and just about every other insect in between makes us squirm.

Sure, some of those little critters can sting poison or hurt us in some other way, but the vast majority of bugs we see are totally harmless and one well-placed stomp away from annihilation.

Experts can't say for sure exactly why we tend to get so panicky, but they do have a few solid theories.

The first is that our ancient ancestors had a better chance to survive the more cautious they were.

Particularly brave and maybe not so bright caveman might stick his hands straight into a beehive for instance, while his cautious counterpart lives to find a safer way.
