Hi, everyone. And welcome back to 酒馆. Hi, 安澜.
Hi, lulu. Hi, everyone.
That aside, let's get to the actual travels. Let's start packing first.
Okay.
Are you someone who travel light?
I travel light and I travel really, really organized.
Why am I not surprised? I'm the opposite.
I know. I've seen how you've packed. So travel light for me, I have like one small backpack. I tried to fit what I can in it and just try and get everything into it. And normally like small toiletries, travel size toiletries, things like that.
Let me guess you have the entire set of... all of these travel equipments like travel set toiletries, 什么旅行装的那些洗漱用具. I bet you have packing cubes.
I do have packing cubes.
Packing cubes are these little bags like you can put into your big luggage or suitcase so that they will keep your luggage organized.
I do have packing cubes, they're brilliant.
My idea of packing is really just throw...chuck everything... is just to chuck everything in within the probably the last half an hour.
Okay, I can't do that.
I would like to say I power pack.
No, you just pack really badly. So for me for example I have a special pouch where it's got all of my cables that I need. I just prefer to travel very organized. I always keep... because I travel so much, I always keep my bag essentially packed so that I travel light, I can throw what I need in the bag and then I can go.
我记得很早之前有一次安澜第一次看到我pack的时候, 他已经忍不住要jump in to say, can I do this for you please because you are hurting my brains.
Yes, it was not pretty.
And this is also why... and I'm the opposite of traveling light, so I generally have like check-in luggage, sometimes excess luggage.
I have excess luggage if I'm bringing stuff back from the UK, but if I'm traveling I pretty much try to fit everything into one bag.
I see, and one more question.
yes.
Unpacking, are you the type of person that comes back home from a long flight and then you immediately unpack?
Yes.
God, how am I not surprised, it takes me a whole week to even start to realize hang on a minute I need to unpack.
No, I unpack straight away. But, then again as I say, I always keep one of my bags, I keep that semi packed, so that…
You have a to-go bag?
Yes, of course I got a to-go bag.
Why, you're not a paramedic.
No, but I travel a lot, so it saves a lot of time and make sure I got everything altogether in my bag.
Ok, so everything packed, let's set off. On the journey, what kind of transport... I actually know your answer because I know you so well.
Yes
If we're talking about different types of transport, flight, train, coaches, we're not counting buses because we're talking about destination to destination and like ship or boat, your choice will definitely be train.
I love trains.
Trains are so much fun and…
You sound like Sheldon now.
It’s so much less hassle than a flight. I'm not scared of flying. I just don't really like flying.
First of all, airports are always out of town.
They are always out of town, they are always busy, they are always noisy.
And train stations are not busy?
Well, they are, but the thing is you don't have to get to a train station like 2 hours ahead of time.
That's true.
Security is not as tight. Some train stations they can be very, very busy, but airplanes, airports, no.
Plus, I get air sickness. 我是有点晕机的, but I don't get train sick. It's very difficult to get train sick.
No. I don't get air sick. I just don't really like planes.
Plus like the pressure and your ears will pop. It's just pretty bad.
The thing that I like about train is that you can just sit down and there's none of this, ok, you gotta put your seat belt on, you gotta take your seat belt off. There's no rules like you can't use your laptop or anything like that.
You sit on the train, you have your coffee, you might have something to eat and you can just relax. That's what I really like about trains.
And you also can enjoy the scenery. If you are going via scenic routes, or scenic routes/raʊts/.
I remember once traveling in, I forgot which country but it’s next to the Mediterranean... like the whole Mediterranean, and then it was just breathtaking.
Yeah. It's a nice way of seeing the country as well.
I suppose you can see little bits of it when it's taking off and when... before it’s landing.
Yes, that's it. You see an airport and then you see another airport.
And also let's not forget. We can afford first class on a train, but we cannot really do it on the plane.
Saying that I have once got business class, British Airways.
Free upgrade.
Free upgrade, yeah.
I know you so well.
And so I have to admit if I was flying business class or first class every time, I probably would like flying a lot more.
I totally get that.
But have you ever taken coaches like长途汽车?
I have. I don't really like them that much. I've never taken a coach in China, but in the UK and Europe I've taken coaches. I don't mind them, but again it's like being on the train, but all the bad things about a train.
So they're quite cramped. You can still see the scenery, but you're gonna end up stuck in traffic.
Yeah, that's another thing, traffic. I think coaches people take them mainly because there are no other options or this is the cheapest option. I've never got on a coach, I don't think I can remember. What about like ship or cruise, is that too early for you?
No. I... the first time I went to Japan, I went from china. I went from Qingdao to Japan by boat.
By boat, how long did it take?
About 2 days.
2 days to go from Qingdao to Japan?
Yeah, it was about that.
Did you get seasick?
No, and the thing was that this boat was pretty much empty. So it was like this huge boat and there was only about 30 people on board.
You had loads and loads of space. You could sit in the lounges, they had Japanese bars, they had buffets. It was brilliant. I really really enjoyed it.
Yeah, for me. I think I've watched too many horror films that started like that and then a mysterious marine monster is gonna...
It was a bit creepy. It was...because it was one of these old Japanese boats in the 1980s. So it did look a little bit creepy, but I it was such a great time.
All right. That was about the transport.
